Confessions: I love historical fiction. In the past few years I have been reading up on the Cousin's Wars in England, and before that I was semi-obsessed with the Tudors. After our trip to Paris last year, though, I became intrigued by the Bourbon Kings as well as the French Revolution. As I mentioned in our most recent marriage update, I didn't read much in last month and I was itching to get my hands on a great can't-put-it-down book, or better yet--a series. My sister-in-law suggested Sandra Gulland's trilogy about Josephine Bonaparte and it sounded just up my alley so I decided to give it a go.
Here is the truth: I finished the trilogy in one week. In fact, I finished the first book, The Many Lives & Secret Sorrows of Josephine B. , in a day. It was that good. I didn't know much about Josephine before picking up these books, and I was fascinated by her life and upbringing. Also, Gullands portrayal of Napoleon was really interesting, and definitely challenged some of my pre-conceived notions about him.
If you are looking for a great book and like historical fiction that stays pretty true to fact than I would definitely check out Gulland's series.
