Do you know any lovely ladies who recently got engaged, or are you looking for a gift for a bride you know? Two of the sweetest gifts I received during my wedding season were ring dishes, one when I was newly engaged, and one the morning of my wedding. Both practical and pretty, these dishes stand out as two of the most thoughtful little gifts, and I love being reminded of their stories.
The first weekend I was home in Boston after John and I got engaged, my mom's wonderful friend Mary dropped off a beautiful crystal ring dish for me, with a note that said that when she was newly engaged to her (now) husband a great friend of her mother's gave her the same dish, and she wanted to pass the tradition on to me. How cool is that? Now that dish sits on my side of the sink in our bathroom, and I use it all the time to catch my earrings and rings before I shower or wash my face.
On the morning of my wedding, during a quiet moment, my wonderful sister-in-law, Sarah, gave me a lovely porcelain ring dish, hand painted with my new monogram. It was such a sweet and thoughtful gesture from Mrs. Richey to future Mrs. Richey, and it meant so much to me to be welcomed into the family by my new sister. Only after John and I moved to Pensacola did she tell me that she had even called John to ask what color our bedroom was here, so that she could make sure the colors complimented each other! (Palladian Blue by Benjamin Moore, btw) Now, whenever I drop my rings into that dish, I am reminded of the wonderful new family I acquired when I married John, and of that sweet morning before our wedding day truly began, when I looked down at EVR and realized its happening.
There are tons of cool rings dishes out there, but here are a few of my faves if you need some inspiration:
- My monogrammed dish is from SayYourPeace on Etsy. She makes gorgeous little dishes of all shapes and lovely colors--definitely check it out!
- Anthropologie always has cute little ring and trinket dishes, I'm loving this giraffe and Eiffel Tower
- This Je T'aime dish is too sweet.
- Loving the mint color and shape of this one.
- Is your friend a true prep? She will love this monogrammed dish.
