{Gallivant Design} Lovely Living Rooms

We are doing a little redecorating around here, namely reupholstering a pair of club chairs we have (great bones) and painting the accent wall in our dining/living area. The chairs are currently covered in a dated (but still kind of cool in a Hollywood glamour kind of way) chintz, but we have been leaning more towards a green or neutral palette for the new fabric. With the help of my mother-in-law (who happens to be an interior designer from a family of interior designers) I have been collecting some inspiration for our new look. In terms of my own style, I definitely find myself leaning towards traditional French and English country design with modern and eclectic touches. Here are some lovely living rooms that caught my eye and are inspiring me with their fresh take on traditional design.

Which room is your favorite? I love how cozy the last one is--I would love a little den like that one day for reading and cups of tea or cocktails.

Friday Links + Office Revamp

Happy Friday! I am excited for this weekend, but I am even more excited for next week and having time to sit down and work on this little blog, as well as some other fun writing projects I have going on. I know my picture quality hasn't been quite up to snuff recently, (lots of iphone pics) so I promise that on top of writing more consistent posts I will also whip out my DSLR and get cracking on some better photography!

Today I spent the afternoon revamping our "office" (which is also our guest room) to make it more organized and cozy as I will be spending a lot more time in here in the next few months. I wanted to create a more inspiring space that is both pleasing to look at as well as motivating and functional. I have been seeing tons of cool inspiration boards and techniques all over various blogs and Pinterest lately, and I ended up jumping on the clip-board band wagon. I threw four boards up on the wall, and I am excited to switch out the images on them whenever the mood strikes me. I also put up a pretty new botanical calender that I snagged at Wish Basket a few weeks back, as well as two lovely paintings that one of my dearest friends painted for John and I as a wedding present. (I love being surrounded by the things my friends create--we have such talented friends!) I also snagged some Nate Berkus desk accessories at Target, including a magazine rack, a mini rack I am using for cards and stationary, and a precious little dog tape dispenser. He was so cute...I couldn't resist.

My productivity/mood/creativity is very influenced by my surroundings, and before I did a little feng shui-ing I just never felt super inclined to utilize our office space. Now, though, I am so excited to sit down and get to work here! What do you think? The last thing bugging me is the space above the middle painting--I was going to put something above it, but now I think I will just move the painting up a few inches tomorrow.

Thanks for checking in! Have a wonderful and restful weekend. Below are some cool things that I stumbled upon while browsing the interwebs this week. Enjoy!

  • I madethis pasta last night, but subbed spaghetti squash for the zuchinni noodles. It was so good.
  • Love this helpful list of essentials for any room.
  • I am dying to go to Seattle, and this sounds like a fantastic itinerary. The only thing missing is an afternoon whale watch to see the Orcas!
  • Not that I need an excuse to make an ice cream cake...
  • Has your FB feed been flooded with #icebucketchallenge videos? Have you done it? Here is a little more info about the couple behind it. Yes, its silly. Yes, its for laughs. But is it making a difference? You bet. Lets #strikeoutALS!

xoxo,

Emily

P.S. Did you notice Porter Magazine peeking out of the magazine rack? I bought into the hype...and loved it.

{Gallivant Design} Beautiful Kitchens

Happy Monday, Lovelies! We adore our apartment, but it's one downfall is that we don't have the best kitchen space. Our kitchen isn't awful, but counter space and storage are definitely limited and it is hard to have more than one person in there at a time. Subsequently, I have spent some time dreaming of ideal kitchens in future homes, with plenty of windows and space to cook, eat, and drink tea in while chatting with friends. After all, who doesn't love a good kitchen party?

Here are some spaces I love:

Do you love your kitchen? If so, what are your favorite parts or details?

{Gallivant Design} Wallpaper Love

Hello Friends! I have been silent because since this post I have been so busy gallivanting with some of my most favorite people in the whole world, and it felt too good to unplug. Unfortunately, I got hit with a sinus infection the day before heading home to Pensy, and then got stuck in Miami for a night. Currently I am sitting in a hotel room trying to unclog my ears and unfog my head before my flight home this afternoon--not having much success. I have so many fun posts coming up about our recent adventures and more, but for now lets feast our eyes on some lovely wallpaper design inspo...

Happy Thursday Loveys!

{Gallivant Design} Cabin Fever

We are heading up to John's family house in Vermont in a few weeks and I absolutely cannot wait. I have been craving some time up North, and am so excited to sit outside by the fire pit and grill at night after hiking or fishing, and then curling up with a good book. I love being in the woods and have always dreamed of one day having a little cabin to escape to for weekends or even weeks of writing, cups of tea, and exploring outside. How cool are the ones below? For more cabin inspo, check out this wonderful book, which my parents have on their coffee table at home.

{Gallivant Design} Moody Design Inspo

It is probably all the thunderstorms, but recently I have been gravitating towards moodier interior design. Dark colors and boho accents have been calling my name. They just look so cozy,  perfect habitats to drink tea, brood, and write. Here are some rooms I have been diggin':

Happy Monday everyone!

{Gallivant Design} St. Paddy's Day Inspo

I am only a teensy bit Irish, but for some reason recently rich greens have been catching my eye everywhere. I think it all started with the hunter green ink we chose for our wedding invitations last september-- since then I have been having a seriously green moment, especially when it comes to design and decor. From kitchens to club chairs, I have been dreaming of ways to incorporate the earthy hue into our home, and I figured what better day to share some of my inspiration than today!

We have a pair of tub chairs that I would LOVE to reupholster in a dark green velvet just like that couch...

Happy St. Paddy's day everyone!
